Voluntary compliance is always the main goal for a code enforcement officer. An effective officer uses their words and emotional intelligence to achieve this goal. Generally speaking, a code enforcement officer is responsible for evaluating, educating and, of course enforcing local codes. This can be in the form of answering questions, issuing warnings or giving actual citations for code violations.

In 2022, the Supreme Court ruled as unconstitutional the use of subjective criteria in granting concealed-carry permits. The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections stated that two of the members of the task force were veterans of their department. Poloche leaves behind a wife and two children, and Elliot and his wife were parents to one child. Authorities then faced gunfire coming from inside the home, leading to a standoff. Two people, a woman and a 17-year-old male, were taken to the police station as persons of interest.

The Giffords Law Center’s Annual Gun Law Scorecard finds that gun violence in general and against police in particular is higher in states with relaxed gun laws. Looser gun laws can infuse tensions into scenarios like that in Charlotte, where police are trying to separate unlawful carriers from their guns. Due to Florida legislative changes in 2021, a code inspector may not initiate an investigation of a potential code violation based on an anonymous complaint.

Interior Demolition permits for commercial work are issued through the CIRC. Customers will need to complete a building permit application, include sub-contractors for any trade (E, M, or P) that has elements also being removed, and submit this application to the CIRC online or in person. year-old suspect dead after active shooter reported outside middle school: Sources

The task force was fired on by the wanted suspect as they approached the house and the man was killed in the front yard, Jennings said. Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes, who was wanted for possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of felony to elude out of Lincoln County. During a news conference Monday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was called to a home to serve a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force is headquartered in Charlotte and comprised of 70 federal, state and local agencies.

There is no need to "sign up" for your project to be handled by the Residential Inspections Team. Fugitive task forces are collaborations between agencies to find and arrest suspects in crimes. President Joe Biden was briefed on the shooting and spoke with Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles to express his condolences and support for the community. A second person then fired on officers from inside the home where a high-powered rifle was found, Jennings added. After a three-hour standoff, the suburban Charlotte home was torn open. Armored vehicles smashed into it, ripping off windows and entire doorways that were left broken. Several armored vehicles were parked across yards, some with tree branches dangling off them.

The man used an assault-style rifle to kill the four officers and wound four others before being killed himself. Law enforcement and first responders are sharing their condolences after the deaths of four officers in a shooting in Charlotte on Monday. Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency (LUESA) is an umbrella organization providing many key services to Mecklenburg County residents. LUESA is responsible for enforcing building and zoning codes, providing geospatial data and technology solutions, overseeing waste reduction efforts, and managing water and air resources for future generations. An outdoor range in a screened in porch is allowed if the range is rated for outdoor use and it has an exhaust hood and vent specified by the range manufacturer for use outdoors.

This year has already seen 98 officers shot in the line of duty between January and March, with 10 of those officers dying, according to the Fraternal Order of Police, which tracks those statistics. Last year, the organization recorded 378 officers shot – the highest number on record. Today, 29 states no longer demand a permit, or training, to carry concealed weapons.

The last marshal shot and killed in the line of duty was in November 2018. Chase White was shot in Tucson, Arizona, by a man wanted for stalking local law enforcement officers, the agency said. In June 2016, together with my colleague Page White, we created the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers Officer Safety Committee to help code enforcement deal with traumatic issues. We conducted an extensive report and collected information and we found that many officers had been assaulted, threatened or even attacked. This type of activity can cause an officer to fear for their safety and can create issues when dealing with normal working conditions.

Customers may apply in person at our 1st Floor offices at 2145 Suttle Ave. OR submit an on-line application through the contractor's dashboard. For in-person applications, the appropriate trade permit application form must be completed and signed. If the sub-permit is for work being performed on a project under construction, please bring a copy of the approved drawings or identify the approved project number to verify the work being permitted. If the work being requested on the sub-permit application requires drawings, the customer will be notified, and the customer will need to submit drawings for review.

From homeowners with DIY projects to firms that may be new to working in North Carolina or Mecklenburg County, our friendly staff is here to help you move your project forward. In creating that committee, our goal is to help officers find resources, create legislation and develop much-needed training for those who need it. Code enforcement is a tough job, and it is not law enforcement. We do not carry guns, vests, or other weapons that may cause bodily harm or injury to others; our weapon is our strength and our ability to de-escalate situations. The Giffords Law Center’s Annual Gun Law Scorecard, which ranks and grades state gun laws, has found that gun violence in general and against police in particular is higher in states with looser gun laws.

Even though a part of the job does result in violations, code enforcement officers’ main objective is to ensure an attractive, lawful and safe community. From New York to Texas to Alabama, law enforcement officials have warned for years that relaxing gun laws would lead to more violence toward police. The fatal shooting of a local police officer and three members of a fugitive task force in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday seems to bear those fears out. This is a great question, and one that can not be easily answered in a simple sentence.

More 2024 The Cheerleading Worlds

charlotte ultimate cheer

I assumed there was a mistake and perhaps my name was on the football roster in error. I began to scroll slowly through the football player’s roster, but there was no “Erica”. After that day I never tried out for cheer again, until I got to college. My sophomore year I decided to try out for the Luv-A-Bulls cheer team, who had just won the National Championship the previous year. I worked very hard to learn the material and was determine to give it my all come audition day. Shortly after auditioning both teams, JV and Varsity were selected.

Welcome to Cheer Extreme, the allstar cheerleading powerhouse that was founded in 1992!! We are thrilled for you to learn more about our program. Through competition, performance & practice, our staff strives to develop the whole athlete – physically, mentally, & emotionally.

We are thrilled to announce our anticipated Division List for our 2024-2025 Cheer Extreme Kernersville and Salem Teams!

All cheerleaders and football players were told to be back at the gym at 6pm to view the roster of those who made the team. When we returned to the gym to view the roster, I took off running to the door certain my name would be on the list. I scrolled through the names very fast, but did not see my name. I decided to slow down and look carefully b/c I must have passed my name, but my name wasn’t on the Cheerleader roster.

I was raised in a small town called Stanley, NC. I was 8 years old and b/c of my athletic capabilities at a young age, I assumed there was no sport I couldn’t do. My mom signed me up for cheer and I went to every practice eager to learn the material, as I was determined to make the team. I practiced so much around the house; my parents would yell, “sit down”. I went in the gym with 4 other girls and put on a show, so I thought. I left out the audition feeling really good and excited about becoming a cheerleader.

I was ecstatic to hear my name; “Erica” called for the varsity cheer team. After college I began working and pursuing a career for myself. Because of my love for children I decided to look into volunteer work involving the youth. In 2009 I was given the opportunity to be an assistant coach for C-Meck Cowboys. Thereafter, I became Head Coach and volunteered my services for 5yrs. There’s a quote that states, “When you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life”.

Who controls the House of Representatives? Learn who has the majority

house of representatives majority

The party with a majority of seats in the House is known as the majority party. The speaker, committee chairs, and some other officials are generally from the majority party; they have counterparts (for instance, the "ranking members" of committees) in the minority party. Each of the two political parties also elect a “Whip”—the Majority Whip for the party with the most seats, and the Minority Whip for the other party—from their House delegations. The whip’s official role is to count potential votes for bills being debated for the party leaders. Starting with Republican Nicholas Longworth in 1925 and continuing until 1995, all majority leaders have directly ascended to the Speakership after the incumbent surrenders the position.

Partisan mix of the House by state

The opposition to the Israel aid represented a minority of Democrats, but reflected the deep resistance to unconditional aid and the divisions in the party on Gaza. Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland represented a notable new “no” vote among Democrats, and other standouts included Representatives Donald S. Beyer Jr. of Virginia, Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and John Garamendi of California. Because of redistricting, it is not possible to do a one-to-one match for every seat, but some newcomers who align more closely with the far right were elected to seats previously held by Democrats or Republicans who voted to impeach Mr. Trump or to create the Jan. 6 commission. The Constitution empowers the House of Representatives to impeach federal officials for "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors" and empowers the Senate to try such impeachments. The House may approve "articles of impeachment" by a simple majority vote; however, a two-thirds vote is required for conviction in the Senate. A convicted official is automatically removed from office and may be disqualified from holding future office under the United States.

Special elections

For example, under Democratic rules for the 106th Congress, the minority leader may call meetings of the Democratic Caucus. They are a member of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee; names the members of the Democratic Leadership Council; chairs the Policy Committee; and heads theSteering Committee. Examples of other assignments are making "recommendations to the Speaker on all Democratic Members who shall serve as conferees" and nominating party members to the Committees on Rules and House Administration. Republican rules identify generally comparable functions for their top party leader. From an institutional perspective, the rules of the House assign a number of specific responsibilities to the minority leader. The minority leader also has other institutional duties, such as appointing individuals to certain federal entities.

‘Rivers in the sky’ have drenched California, yet even more extreme rains are possible

States entitled to more than one representative are divided into single-member districts. This has been a federal statutory requirement since 1967 pursuant to the act titled An Act For the relief of Doctor Ricardo Vallejo Samala and to provide for congressional redistricting.[18] Before that law, general ticket representation was used by some states. Jimmy Gomez (born November 25, 1974) is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for California's 34th congressional district since 2017. His district includes the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Eagle Rock, Boyle Heights, Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, and other communities.

These duties involve an array of institutional and party functions. Before examining the institutional and party assignments of the minority leader, it is worth highlighting the historical origin of this position. More than 50 representatives have cosponsored articles of impeachment against Alejandro N. Mayorkas, the homeland security secretary, so far this session. Hard-line Republicans intent on attacking the Biden administration see Mr. Mayorkas as the face of failures at the border.

“The vital US aid bill passed today by the House will keep the war from expanding, save thousands and thousands of lives, and help both of our nations to become stronger,” Zelenskyy said on X. The Democratic-majority Senate is expected to vote on the bill next week, sending it to President Joe Biden to sign into law. GOP state Rep. Alexander Kolodin likewise accused the body, including the Republicans joining with Democrats, of moving forward because of political pressures and likened abortion to the killing of "infants." "This total ban on abortion that the Arizona Supreme Court has ruled on is out of line with where the people of this state are," Lake said in a video statement on social media earlier this month. But leading conservatives like Trump, former Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Senate candidate Kari Lake have touted their general support for abortion restrictions but said the 1864 ban goes too far.

The committees also play an important role in the control exercised by Congress over governmental agencies. Cabinet officers and other officials are frequently summoned before the committees to explain policy. The Constitution (Article I, section 6) prohibits members of Congress from holding offices in the executive branch of government—a chief distinction between parliamentary and congressional forms of government. The House is also served by several officials who are not members. The House's chief such officer is the clerk, who maintains public records, prepares documents, and oversees junior officials, including pages until the discontinuation of House pages in 2011.

Who controls the House? Get to know the balance of power in the 118th Congress

A look at House Republicans' razor-thin majority - Spectrum News 1

A look at House Republicans' razor-thin majority.

Most committee work is performed by twenty standing committees, each of which has jurisdiction over a specific set of issues, such as Agriculture or Foreign Affairs. Each standing committee considers, amends, and reports bills that fall under its jurisdiction. Committees have extensive powers with regard to bills; they may block legislation from reaching the floor of the House.

CBO estimates the effects of those bills on direct spending and revenues. There is no central listing of member office public e-mail addresses. Each member of Congress establishes their office's policy related to the processing and management of e-mail.

One of the most competitive races in the nation is an Orange County district being vacated by Rep. Katie Porter, who is running to replace retiring U.S. Despite the state’s liberal bent, California has the most competitive congressional races in the nation — an anomaly created by the state’s independent map-drawing process and sheer size. Early results showed Tran was a distant second, followed by Nguyen-Penaloza. Early results showed Friedman with a strong lead in first place, Republican candidate Alex Balekian in second place and Portantino not far behind Balekian in third.

Minority leaders may engage in numerous activities to publicize their party's priorities and to criticize the opposition's. The minority leader has a number of formal and informal party responsibilities. Formally, the rules of each party specify certain roles and responsibilities for their leader.

house of representatives majority

The redrawing of district lines resulted in the inclusion of a large number of liberal and gay voters in the Palm Springs area. Rollins is gay and regularly campaigns with his husband; Calvert has a history of voting against LGBTQ+ interests and his allies outed a Democratic rival in a 1994 campaign. Calvert, who said his view on gay rights has evolved and he now supports same-sex marriage, beat Rollins by fewer than 5 points last year, a result that may prompt national Democrats to invest in the race. We need to have the candidates who can message, knock on doors and can generate voter enthusiasm and who can deliver these votes,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Redlands), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Voters will have two separate elections in the span of two weeks for the seat.

Speakers have a role both as a leader of the House and the leader of their party (which need not be the majority party; theoretically, a member of the minority party could be elected as speaker with the support of a fraction of members of the majority party). Under the Presidential Succession Act (1947), the speaker is second in the line of presidential succession after the vice president. Take the 26th House, which convened on Dec. 2, 1839, and promptly ran aground on the question of which of two competing New Jersey delegations, six Democrats or six Whigs, should be seated. After several acrimonious days of debate, the House (which under the Constitution is the sole judge of the “elections, returns and qualifications” of its members) decided to defer the whole New Jersey question, which would seem to have given Democrats the upper hand.

Two Republican senators have already said they will support the repeal effort, signaling the House bill should pass that chamber and then go to Gov. Katie Hobbs' desk to be signed into law. At the request of the Majority Leader and the House Committee on the Budget, CBO estimates the effects of those bills on direct spending and revenues. CBO has limited time to review the legislation before consideration. Although it is possible in most cases to determine whether the legislation would affect direct spending or revenues, time may be insufficient to estimate the magnitude of those effects.

The 222 House Republicans are shown here on a scale of least to most conservative based on their voting records, according to the American Conservative Union. Some lawmakers have not been rated because they are new to Congress or have not voted enough. The tumult that broke out last month during the election of Kevin McCarthy for speaker illustrated the potential for profound dysfunction in the new House Republican majority.

While a narrowly divided House may make passing major legislation harder, it doesn’t automatically condemn Congress to achieving nothing of significance. A review of past Congresses suggests that having same-party control of all three legislative actors – the House, Senate and presidency – certainly helps, as can the spirit of unity engendered by wars or other crises. With a narrow majority in the House, we look ahead to what Republicans can accomplish and what their control of the chamber means for the Biden administration's agenda. Special elections will be held during the 118th Congress to replace members of Congress who leave office for any reason.

I am not sure why they do this, but it would be nice to see their names. They also ask you to bring your home walker but it really is a waste.

house of representatives majority

Representatives and delegates serve for two-year terms, while a resident commissioner (a kind of delegate) serves for four years. The U.S. Constitution requires that vacancies in the House be filled with a special election. The term of the replacement member expires on the date that the original member's would have expired. Under Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution, seats in the House of Representatives are apportioned among the states by population, as determined by the census conducted every ten years. Each state is entitled to at least one representative, however small its population.

Legislative Counsel

As a result, the process to gain ballot access varies greatly from state to state, and in the case of a third party in the United States may be affected by results of previous years' elections. The late 19th and early 20th centuries also saw a dramatic increase in the power of the speaker of the House. The rise of the speaker's influence began in the 1890s, during the tenure of Republican Thomas Brackett Reed. While the minority leader was the head of the minority party, the majority leader remained subordinate to the speaker.

Information for candidates

The floor leaders and whips of each party are elected by their respective parties in a closed-door caucus by secret ballot.[3] The Speaker-presumptive is assumed to be the incoming Speaker, although not formally selected to be nominated for Speaker by the majority party's caucus. After this period, the Speaker-designate is also chosen in a closed-door session by the largest caucus although the Speaker is formally elevated to the position by a public vote of the entire House when Congress reconvenes. Elections for representatives are held in every even-numbered year, on Election Day the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Pursuant to the Uniform Congressional District Act, representatives must be elected from single-member districts. After a census is taken (in a year ending in 0), the year ending in 2 is the first year in which elections for U.S. House districts are based on that census (with the Congress based on those districts starting its term on the following January 3).

Meanwhile, the House’s actions during a rare Saturday session put on display some cracks in what is generally solid support for Israel within Congress. The campaign has said that they have gathered more than 500,000 signatures -- surpassing the necessary threshold, but will continue to gather signatures "until the wheels fall off," a spokesperson told ABC News. The issue is likely to be put directly before voters in November's election. "At the end of the day, your politics is important but it is not worth our souls," he said. "I've known for a while that the votes were there, it just takes a lot of fortitude, a lot of spine," Democratic state Rep. Stephanie Stahl Hamilton, who sponsored the bill, told ABC News' Jaclyn Lee.

Here’s what results in key California House races look like so far

Although this process means that only a fraction of proposed legislation actually becomes law, the framers of the Constitution wanted careful deliberation in which diverse views are heard and our rights as citizens are represented and defended. Committees in both houses review bills that have been introduced by their colleagues, holding hearings in which their merits are debated. The two houses of Congress may effectively have the same legislative powers, but they operate differently. Given the shortcomings of the government created by the Articles of Confederation, the framers soon realized that a bicameral legislature at the national level would foster a more representative central government. Indeed, the Articles of Confederation—the first constitution of the United States—established a Congress in which all 13 states (the original 13 colonies) were represented equally in a unicameral (one chamber) legislature, with no Office of the President or executive branch.

Representatives of the House are addressed as “The Honorable,” before their names, or as congressman, congresswoman, or representative. The so-called bicameral—from the Latin term for “two chambers”—legislature was created by the framers of the U.S. But it’s important to note that this was not the first format established by the framers for the federal government.

As there is no legislation at the federal level mandating one particular system for elections to the House, systems are set at the state level. As of 2022, first-past-the-post or plurality voting is adopted in 46 states, ranked-choice or instant-runoff voting in two states (Alaska and Maine), and two-round system in two states (Georgia and Mississippi). Elected representatives serve a two-year term, with no term limit.

From "How much does the president make?" to "How many amendments are there?" to "What is an oligarchy?" – we're striving to find answers to the most common questions you ask every day. Given the thin Republican majority in the new House of Representatives, Pew Research Center conducted this research to learn about similar situations in the past and how they played out. Slender House majorities (which in this analysis we’re measuring as of the first business day of each Congress) have become more common in the past few decades. After a long run of comfortably large Democratic House majorities from the late 1950s through the early 1990s, narrow majorities – defined for this analysis as margins of control of fewer than 5 percentage points – have prevailed in a third of the 15 most recent Houses. Since the speaker is a partisan officer with substantial power to control the business of the House, the position is often used for partisan advantage. After the whips, the next ranking official in the House party's leadership is the party conference chair (styled as the Republican conference chair and Democratic caucus chair). While all Democrats voted in favor of aid to Ukraine and all but Ms. Tlaib supported funding to Taiwan, 37 left-leaning Democrats defected to vote against the Israel aid bill. They said before the vote that they opposed unfettered aid to Israel that could be used in its offensive in Gaza.

Narrow majorities are tailor-made for contentious speakership elections, as McCarthy’s weeklong, 15-ballot grind in January demonstrated. But considering some of the bitter, drawn-out partisan battling that marked some pre-Civil War elections for speaker, McCarthy’s election almost looks smooth by comparison. The U.S. House of Representatives has chosen the winner of a presidential election on two occasions—1800 and 1824. There are several important leadership positions in the House of Representatives. The minority party develops alternatives and agendas of its own and attempts to construct winning coalitions on their behalf. The House of Representatives shares equal responsibility for lawmaking with the U.S.

One example of a provision repeatedly supported by the House but blocked by the Senate was the Wilmot Proviso, which sought to ban slavery in the land gained during the Mexican–American War. Conflict over slavery and other issues persisted until the Civil War (1861–1865), which began soon after several southern states attempted to secede from the Union. The war culminated in the South's defeat and in the abolition of slavery. All southern senators except Andrew Johnson resigned their seats at the beginning of the war, and therefore the Senate did not hold the balance of power between North and South during the war. Under the Articles of Confederation, the Congress of the Confederation was a unicameral body with equal representation for each state, any of which could veto most actions.

After eight years of a more limited confederal government under the Articles, numerous political leaders such as James Madison and Alexander Hamilton initiated the Constitutional Convention in 1787, which received the Confederation Congress's sanction to "amend the Articles of Confederation". Al Jazeera’s Patty Culhane, reporting from Washington, DC, said the number of Republicans who voted against the bill in the House is significantly high. The United States House of Representatives with broad bipartisan support has passed a $95bn legislative package providing security assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, despite bitter objections from Republican hardliners. Another Republican state representative, Jacqueline Parker, decried the GOP votes for repeal, calling abortion "akin to slavery."

Once inside, terminal employees will guide you to the appropriate line.

Today we take the short drive to Lucerne, often considered Switzerland’s most beautiful city, spectacularly situated among stunning mountain views. It has been attracting well-heeled visitors for two centuries, including Queen Victoria. Highly recommended is an invigorating stroll along the Chapel Bridge, a unique covered wooden walkway crossing the lake, supported by stilts and lined with colorful flower-filled window boxes. Not only is it the city’s most iconic structure, it’s a superb way to absorb Lucerne’s regal atmosphere.

Early risers will witness our departure from Koblenz as we set sail towards Cologne. Enjoy a leisurely morning on board as we drift through this lovely Rhineland scenery, past quaint riverside towns with pretty waterfronts and carefully tended vineyards. During lunch, we arrive in historic Cologne, where you have a free afternoon to explore the city. As the Rhine widens and the landscape becomes less rugged, our cruise continues south, stopping in fascinating Rudesheim onto medieval Speyer with its stunning Romanesque Basilica that dominates this pretty town. Next day we arrive at the city of Strasbourg where you enjoy a walking tour of the old town. Continuing, we drive through the typical rolling tree-clad massif of the Black Forest onto the charming town of Titisee, nestling on the shores of its namesake lake.

Historic houses dot this carless town and provide picturesque frescoes amid churches and bustling market squares. Lucerne manages to seamlessly combine traditional Swiss architecture with innovative design at its Culture and Convention Center. As a landmark of the city, this beautiful structure complements the calm waters of Lucerne Lake without overpowering surrounding historic buildings. There are 49 cruises to choose from, that range in length from 10 days up to 30 days. The most popular month for these cruises is July, which has the most tour departures. This morning, we have arrived in France and Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace region.

From the Rhine River, Viking offers unparalleled journeys through Switzerland, where you can discover the country’s scenic beauty among the Alps. Explore Zürich's charm with its stunning lake setting and exceptional architecture and take in scenic alpine views from the traditional Swiss town of Lucerne. Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. This optional Cruise and Event Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included in initial payment. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your reservation.

Arrive in Cologne, where your five-star floating hotel is moored in the picturesque historic center. Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is flexible and allows for layering. Pack comfortable yet sturdy walking shoes that have already been broken-in, as many of the sites visited were built centuries ago and have uneven surfaces, some steep inclines and many steps. Because you will be cruising on a river and not on the open sea, you are never far from land and, therefore, there is no doctor onboard the riverboat. In case of emergency, we can easily dock the boat and call for an ambulance or medical assistance.

Visit the Augusta Raurica, one of the largest Roman archaeology parks in Switzerland, and enjoy a river crossings over the River Rhine by non-motorised ferries. During the summer months, time is spent outdoors, either swimming in the River Rhine, dining al fresco, enjoying open air concerts, cinema, street parties and festivals. Basel is home to over 20 restaurants that have won GaultMillau or Michelin awards, and boasts Switzerland's largest collection of theatre shows, including modern contemporary dance, touring and puppetry theatre. Zurich consistently lands near the top of quality-of-life rankings worldwide.

They were understaffed and the amount of guests were too many for this type of venue. I live in Georgetown about 3 miles from the Franklin County line, lol. Eat in Frankfort all the time, closer than going into Georgetown. You are lucky your A/C worked in your cabin and hallway,  and you did not have mildew in your shower stall and on the curtain..

Celebrity Reflection Review

It's a totally separate Beach Club that sits within the the Resorts World Hilton complex but isn't connected at all to the Hilton Hotels. Having said this who actually owns the beach club and/or developed it is still not clear. There definitely is joint agreements as to the usage. We board Infinity a week from Saturday. Will be our first time back on M-class in many moons. In Bimini is that beach and pool at Resorts the same as the Virgin Beach Club that Virgin Voyages uses, or something totally different?

Find a Celebrity Edge Cruise from $358

Someone always picking up glasses and trash, taking used towels off chairs unoccupied. Just a couple notes from our recent (July 23) Infinity cruise to share with you. My sister and I cruised together and we found the ship to be generally in good condition. This was just a quick get away for us and we really just wanted to lay around and relax for a week. We are seasoned cruisers with over 20 cruises each,  on different lines. Celebrity is my preferred brand and Disney is my sisters.

Where does Celebrity Reflection sail to?

While on the topic of cleaning and maintenance... We found several "lights out" around the ship.... One light in the stairwell and one in one of the ladies rooms.

We both were on the Edge last year and while it's beautiful, we prefer the smaller ships. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Find your Celebrity Millennium Roll Call by choosing your sailing month from the drop down menu below. And the Celebrity Edge Magic Carpet isn't just a tender platform. It can be positioned on Decks 5 and 14, where it serves as an eatery or bar. Cool sophistication is the unmistakable vibe onboard Celebrity Reflection, the biggest of the five ships in the line's mega-popular Solstice Class.

We also had a lot of issues with the shower in my cabin, it seemed to be leaking and every time the shower ran the carpet would get wet next to the bed. They offered to bring an industrial blower in but there was already no room in the cabin and I never could have slept with that. I sailed on INFINITY almost 20 years ago to Hawaii and loved it. Happy to return in September with some friends.

Celebrity Edge is a different ship from the rest of the Celebrity Cruises fleet and was designed to attract people who have never cruised before. Celebrity typically draws middle- and upper-class folks in their mid-40s and older. The pool decks never felt crowded and there were always servers coming around to check on us. We stayed on the upper deck with a nice breeze.

Food is good but again staffing issues made the meal slow. Ocean view Cafe for lunch was fantastic. Wonderful salad bar and YES there is a fish and chips day. I tried the fish but did not care for the breading, too soggy and too much of it. I pulled it away and put the fish on my salad and it was delish!

Find your Celebrity Equinox Roll Call by choosing your sailing month from the drop down menu below. We are on our first Celebrity cruise on Infinity in October. Did the A/C on the ship overall seem to work fine? I know the first week or two people complained about it. The Virgin Beach Club is way further down on Bimini and not connected to the Hilton or Resorts World, beaches, although it does utilize their trolleys. The Virgin Beach Club was always kinda fuzzy until you're there or look at Google Maps.

We actually met and ended up spending a lot of time with the Kostas, the Director of Food and Beverage. He is a wonderful young man and a great brand ambassador. We chatted frequently throughout the week and he seems to actually want to hear our opinions. I am glad to hear things out of the cabins seem to be improving. Particularly the buffet, MDR and bars.

Celebrity Edge didn't just revolutionize entertainment. The ship has turned tendering -- that often unpleasant experience where you have to board a small boat to get to a port -- into an infinitely more pleasant experience. The Magic Carpet is a tennis court-sized moveable deck, kitted out with an open-air lounge and bar.

These shows (with the exception of the Piano Man and the Comedian) reminded me of HS Musicals. LOL  The piano guy was AMAZING and he preformed another night in the lounge. Get there early, people were sitting on the floor! We went to the adult comedian show in the theater and he was super funny. The only pool game we saw was passenger vs officers volleyball. There were no themed nights on our cruise.

I heard when a Virgin ship isn’t in port you can pay to spend the day at their Beach Club. We will be on the same itinerary in September and these ports are new to us except Key West so it is great to have reports from recent cruises. Seems like Resort World is the better option for Bimini especially with the pool since there have been some recent reports of jelly fish in the water. Find your Celebrity Edge Roll Call by choosing your sailing month from the drop down menu below. Find your Celebrity Summit Roll Call by choosing your sailing month from the drop down menu below.

The same was true on QM2 in March. Covered in rust and you could barely see through the glass rail. The worst condition I’ve ever seen her in. In fact, many traditional cruisers may have a hard time with the ship.

When is the Best Time to See the Northern Lights on an Alaska Cruise

best time to cruise alaska to see northern lights 2023

Alaska weather in October is manageable if you pack the right gear and protective clothing. Even if you're a seasoned fisherman, we recommend using a local guide to help find you the best fishing spot. On dry land, bears are more common in May, though not as frequently spotted as they are in peak summer. Temperatures are relatively mild, with daytime highs in the upper 40s and into the 50s depending on where you're visiting and cloud cover.

The Best Time to See the Northern Lights on an Alaska Cruise

Next, we’ll explore the Alaska cruise routes that offer the best chances of witnessing this awe-inspiring natural wonder. If you’re looking to get away from the summer crowds and enjoy an intimate cruise in remote Alaska, then we recommend booking an ocean view cabin on a smaller ship. Smaller boats have access to quieter coastlines, like the Wrangell Narrows, that larger cruise ships don’t have access to.

The best time to get a glimpse of this beautiful phenomenon is between August and April. During this time, less daylight leads to darker skies, hence the lights can be seen distinctly. For many travelers, catching a glimpse of the spectacular aurora borealis is the dream of a lifetime. Don’t miss out on the chance to see them this year as the sun’s cycle reaches solar maximum, ensuring the best viewing opportunities for the next 11 years, especially during the spring and fall. Plus, there’s no place better than Alaska for stargazing, where vast skies and minimal light pollution create the perfect setting for nature’s light show.

What to Do in Alaska: Top Things to Do in April

At AAA, we offer a wide selection of cruise itineraries to those explorers who want to get up close and personal with Alaskan wildlife, landscape, and culture. Aurora Borealis is the kind of scientific phenomenon that most people seem to either know everything about or nothing at all. I must admit – until I became interested in global cruising, I don’t think I’d ever heard of this natural wonder with the weirdest of names. Alaska is by far the best place to see the northern lights in the U.S., though they have been reported as far south as Honolulu. That said, some towns in Alaska are better for Aurora Borealis viewing than others. Alaska’s magnetic pull is undeniable, drawing adventurous travelers eager to explore its vast wilderness and rugged landscapes.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has a Space Weather Prediction Center, which is a great resource for a short-term forecast of northern lights activity. Fairbanks also happens to be the headquarters of the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska, which issues a nightly forecast on Aurora viewing alongside a 27-day forecast. The old gold rush boomtown of Fairbanks is the undisputed capital of the northern lights hunt in Alaska. It's not the very best place for aurora viewing — it's just below the Arctic Circle — but auroras frequently occur here.

They occur all year long but are only visible when the sky is dark and clear. If you prefer warmer temperatures, ranging from 50° to 70° Fahrenheit, and longer days with up to 22 hours of sunlight, a summer Alaskan cruise might be the perfect choice. For the most midnight sun, travel 3 weeks before or after June 21, the summer solstice. We’ve broken the seasons down for you, including the highlights of each, as well as the best cruise lines and cruise ships to consider so you can make your bucket list dreams come true. During the cruise season, popular cruise lines assist travelers in enjoying all of the unique sights, wildlife, excursions, events and food. To help you find the best time to cruise to Alaska, Cruise Critic is breaking down the Alaska cruise season month by month to help you plan your bucket-list trip.

The less-fun news is that there’s no guarantee you’ll see the lights— the show could easily be upstaged by a cloudy sky, a full moon, or even a weaker solar cycle. The fresh arctic air and the bright night sky alone will likely fill your cup. Even if you don’t catch a glimpse, you’ll still have every chance to kick back and experience everything that makes Alaska such a cruise-worthy destination. As the school season begins and fall approaches, cruise prices start to dip, affording the opportunity to snag a last-minute bargain for Alaska. We still recommend planning ahead though, as an increasing number of tourists have been booking cruises each year in September. This month brings cooler weather and more rain but fails to dampen the high spirits on cruise ships.

And this year is a peak chance to embark on an extraordinary journey with UnCruise with the Northern Lights promising to be more impressive than ever. Alaska cruisetours are the ideal way to explore the state’s stunning interior and extend your Alaska cruise vacation. In Iceland, you’ll stop in Akureyri and overnight in the capital city, Reykjavik. Discover the wonders of Iceland’s nature by hiking along snow-capped mountains, marveling at enormous waterfalls, and exploring gurgling fields of Icelandic lava. Non-photographers are welcome to enjoy the show and have their photo taken. The city has a variety of aurora-viewing venues, from a number of scenic drives and parks to cozy cabins and lodges.

It's best to forget the more southern destinations of Anchorage and Juneau, which see dramatically fewer displays. If you can find dark and clear skies, be on alert from dusk onwards and you might get to see an aurora. According to the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the best time to see the aurora is around midnight, give or take an hour. Alaska is by far the best place to see the northern lights in the U.S., though they have been reported as far south as Honolulu. That said, some towns in Alaska are better for Aurora Borealis viewing than others.

Cozy up to the fire, sip on cocoa and coffee, and step outside when mother nature puts on a show. Although the center is a short distance from town, it is far enough away so that you won’t have to worry about light pollution interrupting your view as you stand gazing under the vast, starlit sky. SolarHam gives a reliable three-day geomagnetic forecast that's often used by aurora hunters, while the Aurora Forecast app shows travelers the position of the auroral oval around the Arctic Circle. It also indicates the probability of seeing the northern lights where you are (green, not so much; red, and they're probably happening right above you). Those wanting to maximize their chances should head for the more remote northern villages of Coldfoot in the Yukon Territory or to Prudhoe Bay and Utqiaġvik in the extreme north. A survey by the Discovery Channel noted that seeing Aurora Borealis made it to more “bucket lists” than any other travel adventure.

The darker months when there is less natural light get the best view of this phenomenon. Traveling with UnCruise also grants exclusive access to remote areas, as their ships, with capacities ranging from 22 to 86 guests, navigate areas where larger vessels can’t. UnCruise guests visiting Glacier Bay National Park get a rare opportunity to set foot on land and explore the “outback,” a privilege granted to less than one percent of total park visitors.

While they may seem otherworldly, their origins are rooted in collisions between gases in our Earth's atmosphere and those in the Sun's atmosphere. Solar winds that encircle the planet create distinct patterns, which can manifest as rippling currents or dancing rays of light. The good news is that no matter which month you choose, your Alaskan cruise will reward you with incredible experiences and memories that last a lifetime. The best month to visit Alaska depends on what you hope to experience during your trip.

Guests embark in Southampton, England, before sailing north to Norway, traveling as far north as Tromsø, well north of the Arctic Circle. We recommend splurging on a room with windows for the best northern lights viewing options. However, those in interior cabins can always run up on deck — which you should do anyway to witness the full grandeur of the atmospheric phenomenon. Considering the cruise line is named after the atmospheric phenomenon, it should come as no surprise that it offers a northern lights itinerary. At 19 to 22 days long, depending on the departure, there is plenty of time to hope for a northern lights appearance — or two, or three, or more. The longer itinerary continues with a visit to the Faroe Islands and disembarkation in Bergen, Norway.

This is but one of the incredible experiences that may be had when visiting Alaska in the “secret season”—springtime. Not only are the flowers and plant life awakening from their wintertime slumber, so is its wildlife. While this spectacle can be seen from various ports of call, Princess offers the Aurora Borealis Viewing experience in Fairbanks for an unparalleled experience. Step away from the city lights and into a cozy yurt where you can view the aerial performance from the comfort of your own space. Or, head outside, set up your camera and capture postcard-worthy photos to share with your loved ones.

Viewing the Alaska northern lights takes the right timing, the right location and the right conditions. The supernal shimmer of emerald and violet begins with a few streaks and then breaks out into a graceful ballet. Spectators gaze at the sky in awe or snap photos well into the middle of the night. The northern lights or Aurora Borealis is a top-listed experience on many travelers’ bucket lists. It’s worth noting that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can be affected by various factors such as solar activity, weather conditions, and geomagnetic storms.

Mt. Denali is another option for cruisers, but be sure to check on the Mt. Denali weather with your cruise line. Anchorage also witnesses tantalizing displays, just not as frequently as Fairbanks and Denali as it’s farther south. If you’re in Anchorage and the conditions are ideal, head to a higher elevation. Glen Alps, Point Woronzof, and the Knit River Valley offer decent vantage points—some face north with no pesky mountain peaks in the way. The Northern Lights and Aurora Borealis are one and the same — most people call them Northern Lights, while the scientific name is Aurora Borealis.
